Budlong Woods and West Englewood were completed in 2003.
Project description: These were the first two prototypical Chicago Public Libraries to be redesigned to achieve LEED certification.
Services provided: While with another firm, Helen Kessler analyzed the feasibility of modifying the prototypical designs to achieve LEED Certification. She led the sustainable design and energy modeling process.
Results: Budlong Woods and West Englewood have both been LEED Certified.
Prototypes: HJKessler Associates is now working on new prototype sustainable libraries for the City of Chicago with Lohan Anderson. These prototypes, including West Humboldt, Greater Grand Crossing and Edgewater Branch Public Libraries have been designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
